The real reason there are no dead leprechauns cluttering up the place is because most NPCs don't have dead (or sleeping) sprites. It's hard to have a pile of corpses in a sprite comic when those kinds of sprites just don't exist.
Which is part of why Chrono Trigger is so helpful. That's a game with a few different NPCs that are dead, allowing me to occasionally have bodies littering a place. It doesn't help me here, but it is nice to have that card in reserve when I can lay it.
