For a point of reference, I didn't originally plan to do this Sprockets plotline until later in this series. But then timing lined up, and I realized I needed to bring her character back earlier.
Of course this is going to change a few other things, as you'll see soon enough...

The amount of time she spent with Angel and Darkmoon would definitely be enough to make that an instinctual response.
