The question is whether Cornell can actually explain it in such a way that they believe him. There's a reason only two characters still know they're in a web comic.
I would note that the characters should have some sense of what "online" is since the Crystal Ball Network was something I introduced fairly early on in the series. It may have disappeared after the reboots, though, so we'll just say it's been wiped away at some point. No harm, no foul.
