I'll only lightly touch upon that fact that Link carries too much crap, as I've talked about that in several places before. But, yes, it does amaze me that the guy can swim, what with all the swords, boomerangs, arrows, bombs, and everything else he carries. And he doesn't carry a pouch! Plus, the one that I really find funny: he has iron boots so he can sink underwater, but if he takes them off -- and is still carrying them -- he floats. Physics be damned!
