Well, honestly he can only be staked by iron. Presumably some kind of railroad tie. At least that's what's in the book, Dracula (although my recollection could be spotty since I really hated that book).
Most sources tend to agree that consecrated wood is needed for vampires, especially elder ones like Dracula, so we'll count that as the rule. Magic (and whips) also work since this is Castlevania.
