Give them credit for thinking like a villain. It's where the villains they're used to would go. Natural train-of-conclusions.
Of course, we aren't dealing with their usual villains, so this probably won't pan out.
If you're wondering, the path they're on is from Secret of Mana 2 (that's what it's name would have been if it'd been released in the US, as per Nintendo Power back in the day). That game had gorgeous graphics, so it's really a shame it never made its way over here.
